How many layers should good plywood have?

For 18mm plywood, anything 13 or 15 layers is considered strong and durable.

Why more layers = better quality?

More layers = better load distribution
Less chance of cracking or bending

Alternate grain direction in each layer
Reduces warping due to moisture
3. Screw holding capacity
More layers = better grip for screws and nails
Important for furniture joints

Not all 18mm plywood is equal:

Low grade: 12 layers → weak, may bend
High grade: 13 layers → strong, long-lasting
Lifetime grade: 15 layers → strong, long-lasting

So same thickness ≠ same quality. 18mm Plywood by itself, does not indicate the strength unless the construction composition by number of layers is known.

How to check in real life

When buying plywood:

Look at the side edge
Count visible layers
Layers should be:
Thin and Uniform across layers
Even Parallel Lines
No gaps or holes
