Updated:
The difference between MR plywood and BWP plywood mainly comes down to water resistance, durability, and intended use.
MR Plywood (Moisture Resistant)
Also called commercial plywood
Made using urea-formaldehyde resin
Cannot withstand exposure to moisture or humidity.
Preferred for short life or use & throw commercial use.
BWP Plywood (Boiling Water Proof)
Also known as marine plywood
Made using phenol-formaldehyde resin
Highly water-resistant / waterproof
Can withstand prolonged exposure to water, even boiling water
Stronger bonding and longer lifespan
More expensive
Best used for:
Indian Home Interiors. Mandatory for Kitchens, Bathrooms and walls adjacent to wet areas.
Conclusion
MR plywood is suitable only for dry indoor furniture only if you trust the construction quality and are confident of not getting wall leakages. BWP plywood is a much stronger, waterproof option designed for wet and high-moisture areas. Always use genuine BWP plywood after performing pressure test as this is the only proof that it can withstand the wear and tear from building structure in addition to the furniture.
